2016-04-07 New seeds new joys! Fargesia yunnanensis and Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis' (so called Yellow groove bamboo) is in my pocket

During moso bamboo germination we decided to read more about bamboos and their habits. The place where we live require really hardy bamboos.

From the information that I get one of the most accommodating bamboo is from Fargesia. Some of the literature proves that this sort of bamboos could live where temperatures goes below -20CAlthough tolerating moderate cold in its native terrain it is not fully hardy in some parts of the the UK and northern Europe and will withstand subzero temperatures down to about -10C. Chinese growers claim to grow this species down to -20C ... we haven't tried that yet! So we will try this.

The seeds are really small. The instruction is placed under the seeds in the picture above. We will lead the correct rules for this sort of seeds. I will write something about them in the future.

One more type is Spectabilis (Phyllostachys aureosulcata'Spectabilis') as well called yellow groove bamboo. We choose this kind of plants because they can live in wide range of temperatures. I tried to compare USDA temperature zones to our so the USDA 5th zone is something near us. just we have a bit colder winters and hotter summers. as the literature says - this specie could handle up to -23C. We will see.

Before we husk the seeds they were HUGE. After we did - seeds became small as other :)
From the first point of view - seeds looks perfect. I hope that germination period will be even better than our Moso seeds.

Woohooo. We have more seeds!!!
