2016-05-23 A bit different watering and hardening

Watering

Watering is one of the most important things for plants. As we found out - bamboos loves wet soil but it hates standing water.

After we do the watering the pallet under the bamboos looks like this:

So the water is pent under the bamboos. Bamboo roots are getting sick about this and the leaves are getting brown. So the solution that i found is - water bamboos once, then use the same water to water them once again just after the first watering is finished. After these two watering circles the soil is getting really wet and the water is poured away.

As well I use the sprayer to imitate the raining water. I guess that bamboos love raining water.

Hardening

Now we are starting adoption of the bamboos for outside weather situation.
Every day I use my hand to touch all the bamboos. I imitate wind :)
As well I keep open brow box for night time and close for day time. Using this method I'm trying to imitate cold nights and very hot days, because this is what we have here in our country.

In a near future bamboos will go outside.

2016-05-23 Transplantation of Yunnanensis

We had 15 seeds of Yunnanensis bamboo seeds but the only one seed germinated well.

I covered the pallet under the plastic bag under the water heater. I really have good conditions there - +30 degrees of Celsius and the humidity is really high.

The only bad think is that this germinated seed have really big shoot. It is about 14-15 centimeters height.

While the other seeds are staying still in the soil.

As I told I use the plastic bag on the pallet so my plant looks like under pressure in this pot.

I transplanted it into the other pot where i do not use plastic bag.

I was afraid to damage the root but as I see this could the a starting rhizome.

We hope that this sprout will adopt to new "friends" as well the rest of the seeds will germinate as fast as it possible in the given conditions.

2016-05-23 Bamboos looks pretty good. Some of them are about 20 cm height

Just few photos of my bamboos. As I see there is no problems with them :)

2016-05-22 Gift from Mom

My mother still do not understand that I'm really growing bamboos.

She was doing cleaning in the basement and she found a lot of flowerpots. She asked me to take these pots and throw out it to the recycle bin near by the house.

Thanks god that was me not my brother or father. They would just simply throw out these pots.

Now we have some pots for our further growing. Thank you Mom :)))

We have one bamboo stranger. It has 3 leaves at one elevation. It looks very different comparing to other bamboos.

If talking straightly - this is my favorite one :))

2016-05-12 Moso is 18 centimers height

2016-05-12 Moso is 18 centimers height. We feel the power of the growBOX. I see that bamboos are growing faster inside the box

And here we can see really nice bamboo mustaches :))

2016-05-06 2nd sprout of Moso

I see that we have 2nd sprout of the Moso. The same seed and new sprout! Really cool and really fast!

We are just thinking is this a new sprout or just a leave that was hidden in the soil for a while.

We will see in a future.

2016-05-05 Fargesia Yunnanensis is about 8 centimeters height

Fargesia Yunnanensis is about 8 centimeters height

2016-05-05 Moso is growing fast. Some of them are bigger than 10 centimeters.

Moso sprouts are growing really fast. I never tried growing bamboos before so this looks fast for me :)

Photos describes everything.

The only think that leaves are a bit brown. But this phenomenon occurs only for bamboos that are planted into the perlite soil.

We see that we are moving forward.

2016-05-05 Some of Moso seeds are still in germination box

From the beginning till now passed  37 days and some of  our Moso seeds are still in germination process. As we understood - where is a big difference on seed quality for the rest of the plant life. for example the germination from German seller seeds was really bad at the same conditions as Chinese seeds. As well as in this experiment - some of the seeds germinated really fast, so of them NOT.

Bet the results are such:

Seeds looks good. The sprouts looks good as well.
I guess these seeds will be planted outside just for fun :)

Can't wait for the good weather.

2016-05-05 I think we lost 59 from 60 spectabilis seeds. One is planted into the soil

Our Spectabilis seeds became rotten and slimy fluid begins to run out of seeds.

I don't know what we did wrong but the seeds now are soft, black, moldy and slimy fluid is running out of the seed.

The only one who looks like alive was planted into the soil

I really don't think this seed will show something special but at least we are trying.

Day 1 for the mold

Day 2 for the mold

Removing of the mold.

I hope that this decease injured only one Moso shoot.  I really hope so.

2016-05-02 11 days for Spectabilis. Bad news.

Our Spectabilis seeds are getting worse and worse.

Lots of seeds are wrapped with some kind of mold. I'm don't know what to do.

I've been walking in the household exhibition and I met a guy who was selling different plants, starting from strawberries to peaches, etc. I asked him the question about germination period and the mods that you see in this picture. The old man suggested me to separate good seeds and bad seeds. So this is the only advice that we get from the good man.

So the seeds now are separated. One of the are going to recycle bin and the other goes back to the germination box.

We are waiting for improvements of the rest of seeds.

2016-05-02 Day 20. Moso leaves are getting brown in perlite soil

Phyllostachys endulis leaves are getting brown. The main reason is still water under the soil.

While we used heating pad under the pallets all the water was vaporized really quickly. Now the water remains in the bottom of the pallet. I think that the watering should be done in a different day. Maybe spraying will be the answer to this.
